Daniel Craig is set to reprise his role as detective Benoit Blanc in the third instalment of the Knives Out franchise, titled Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, slated to release in 2025, Netflix announced on Friday.

“Benoit Blanc returns in his most dangerous case yet,” the streamer wrote alongside an announcement teaser on Instagram.

Written and directed by Rian Johnson, Knives Out came out in 2019. It follows the renowned detective Benoit Blanc while he investigates the death of a wealthy crime novelist Harlan Thrombey. As Blanc interrogates the eccentric and dysfunctional Thrombey family, he uncovers a web of secrets, lies and motives, leading to a surprising twist involving Harlan’s nurse, Marta.

Soon after the announcement, Rian wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “I love everything about whodunnits, but one of the things I love most is how malleable the genre is. There’s a whole tonal spectrum from Carr to Christie, and getting to explore that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc movies.”

In the second instalment titled Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, Blanc is invited to a lavish private island owned by tech billionaire Miles Bron, where a murder mystery party turns real. As Blanc navigates the complicated relationships and secrets of Bron’s circle of friends, he uncovers layers of deception and betrayal.

“That’s right, Daniel Craig is back as the suave Southern investigator in Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, a new instalment of the whodunnit franchise written and directed by Rian Johnson. Blanc will be unravelling a brand-new murder mystery in an as-yet-undisclosed setting, surrounded by a new colourful cast of suspects,” Netflix wrote on its official blog.

However, other cast details are yet to be announced.
