What happens when Coldplay’s glowing tribute to Taylor Swift wafts through the mazes of the internet? Of course, it makes the fans go gaga as they have now made viral a brief clip that shows Chris Martin, the pianist and vocalist of the British rock band, dedicating their 2016 hit Everglow to the pop star.
The video shared by fans from a recent Coldplay concert in Germany’s Düsseldorf shows Martin giving a nod to Swift, who performed in a neighbouring city just a day before as part of her Eras Tour show. “This is for Taylor Swift, because she left town,” Martin said in the video amidst cheers from the crowd.
“This is for all of you who feel sad today because Taylor had to go to the next city! We sing this love song and send it to Taylor wherever she is,” he added, acknowledging the pop star and her loyal band of Swifties around the world.
Swift is set to make stops in Hamburg and Munich for her next concerts in Europe. “Those 3 Gelsenkirchen crowds were AMAZING, and so thoughtful??? There were signs and paper hearts, the ‘betty’ wave, and tons of DIY “willow” orbs made out of balloons + phone flashlights. Thank you,” she wrote on Instagram following her last concert.
Both Swift and Coldplay have been making waves on the Billboard charts. While Swift’s latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, has been maintaining its spot in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 since its release on April 19, Coldplay’s 2021 single Higher Power is rising up the Hot 100 chart.
Swift recently appreciated her fans for supporting her latest album The Tortured Poets Department, which topped the Billboard charts for the first 12 weeks of its release, creating a new milestone for the singer.
“I also wanted to say to everyone who’s supported The Tortured Poets Department, I am completely blown away by what you’ve done - it stayed at #1 for the first 12 weeks of its release and that’s never happened to an album of mine before, not even close,” she wrote on social media.
“You’re just the greatest. Anyway, now that we’ve officially kicked off our shows in Germany, I can’t wait to see you all in Hamburg next,” she signed off.
Coldplay, too, is currently on the European leg of their Music of the Spheres World Tour. They have performed a medley of their hits at Athens, Budapest, Rome, Lyon and Düsseldorf so far.
