Brand Bollywood - Down Under trailer: Anupam Sharma’s documentary chronicles Indo-Aussie relations through Bollywood

The trailer of Anupam Sharma’s upcoming documentary Brand Bollywood - Down Under, which recently premiered at the 76th Cannes Film Festival in France, promises an eye-opening reflection on Hindi Cinema’s global soft power that impacted Australia’s relationship with India.

The two-minute-34-second-long trailer gives us a sneak peek into the relationship between India, Australia and Bollywood. The documentary takes a deep dive into the enormous and evolving role played by Bollywood on the international stage. At the end of the video, actor Anupam Kher talks about the purpose and impact of Hindi cinema.

The documentary utilises behind-the-scenes footage of major Bollywood films shot in Australia like Dil Chahta Hai and Love Story 2050. It also features some of the prominent personalities of the Indian film industry as well as representatives from the Australian government, trade and tourism.

Speaking about the documentary, Anupam Kher said, “It is a delight to be part of Anupam’s international documentary on popular Hindi cinema targeted at Indian audiences celebrating our cinema as well as at Western audiences who are still learning about our film culture. Over the years, I have come to share a wonderful association with Australia.”

Describing the need for this documentary, director Anupam Sharma described Bollywood as India’s ambassador to the world. "I have personally seen the role the Indian film industry has played in creating new horizons for Indians in Australia. I deeply felt that this was a story that needed to be told and documented, not just for Indians but for the world!”

Anupam Sharma Sharma has produced Brand Bollywood - Down Under alongside Claire Haywood and Deepti Sachdeva, while Lisa Duff and Janine Barnes serve as executive producers.
