The shoot of Bonny Sengupta’s new film Lungiman, also starring Asim Aktar, is all set to start in December. The story is set in a small town where the anti-hero is involved in certain activities like kidnapping of women and trafficking of cows. The story will be narrated in a comedy-drama format with action and suspense. “The poster is meant simply as a form to entertain the viewers. These kind of movies do not need to have multiple layering or metaphors. The poster shows the primary characters in a very raw element, wearing lungis and using two different kinds of weapons. It’s power-packed and features Asim and Bonny in completely new avatars. The poster is sure to create debates and mixed reactions and has been intended in such way. Asim Aktar, who is a well-known YouTuber/influencer is doing a film for the first time. He plays the hero who is on the side of the law trying to bring down the racket of cow smuggling. Bonny on the other hand plays the anti-hero, Mr. Daptari, who has his own past and demons which has moulded him as a criminal. The conflict and action creates the crux of the film but their characters are laced with a lot of comedy as well,” says Saptaswa Basu, whose production company Neo Studios is the creative producer on the film.

The USP of the film is its commercial packaging and its confidence to embrace such an uncommon and funny name. “If we can accept Pad-man, we can also give Lungiman a try. Today there is no surety which content will work wonders. There are ample examples in recent times. So these bunch of makers, Asim, Md Azhar and team should be given a chance to express their story and crisis points which may have a larger social connect and impact when the final product is out in theatres,” adds Saptaswa.

The shoot is planned in parts of North Bengal and Bolpur. “The look is not of an urban city but the makers want to have a raw and rustic look in the film, so we have planned to visit small towns and locales to create it,” adds Saptaswa. Lungiman is produced by Sahi Bangla and directed by Asim Aktar.
