Filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra will hold a special screening of his 2013 film Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, headlined by Farhan Akhtar, on July 26 in Mumbai to honour the memory of the Indian sprint legend Milkha Singh.
Milkha, popularly known as ‘The Flying Sikh’, passed away last year. He was 91.
The special screening will be organised on the 10th anniversary of the biographical sports drama in association with Viacom18 Studios COO Ajit Andhare and the film’s executive producer P. S. Bharathi from ROMP Pictures.
“Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is really a very special movie for me and the entire nation. The late Milkha Singh, known as ‘The Flying Sikh’ was our country’s pride. With this special screening, we want to give a tribute to this legend who remains an inspiration to millions of people,” said Bharathi.
Recalling Milkha’s indomitable spirit and never-say-die attitude, Andhare said Bhaag Milkha Bhaag managed to leave an indelible mark in the hearts of millions. “Our dedication to crafting compelling and enriching narratives was exemplified through this film. Through this film people still celebrate the life of a stalwart,” he added.
Bhaag Milkha Bhaag traces the late Milkha Singh’s inspiring journey, showing how he established himself as one of India's most iconic athletes. The film also set its mark at the box office as it went on to become the fifth highest-grossing 2013 Bollywood film.
