We could soon have our own version of Lisbeth Salander!

Actor-director Arindam Sil’s new web series, Bidyutlata, starring Sauraseni Maitra and Arjun Chakrabarty, is presenting a mysterious and elusive woman — a hacker to boot, just like our favourite ‘Girl with a Dragon Tattoo’ — as the ultimate problem solver.

Based on two books by Adeesha Sarkar, the series, also featuring Srijani Mitra and Biswajit Chakraborty, will see the woman (played by Sauraseni) teaming up with honest cop Neel Chowdhury (played by Arjun).

No stranger to murder mysteries and detective stories, Arindam previously brought sleuths like Byomkesh, Shabor and Mitin Mashi to the big screen. He has recently completed shooting for a web series based on a Feluda novel.

“This is not a typical detective story; it's a dark noir laced with black humour. The story revolves around Bidyutlata, who is a hacker living in the infamous location of Sonagachhi.

This eccentric woman isn’t a prostitute but has an air of mystery about her. She solves cases and then disappears. The writer has done a striking job,” said Arindam.

Produced by Camellia Productions, the first season of Bidyutlata will have six episodes. “We’ll be shooting extensively in Kolkata. We are going to recreate Sonagachhi for the series. We have zeroed in on a dilapidated, crumbling building as Bidyutlata’s residence.

There’s going to be a lot of thrill, action, drama and sex in the series,” Arindam explained.

For its first season, based on the story Kath Badamer Gandho, Bidyutlata will go on the floors on November 19. Arindam has roped in Bickram Ghosh as the music composer and Ayan Sil as the director of photography for the series.

Padmanabha Dasgupta and Arindram Sil have co-written the script and dialogues, while Sanglap Bhowmick will be helming the editing department. Sumit Sinha has designed the costumes for the series.
