Anurag Kashyap’s police noir Kennedy received a seven-minute standing ovation at the ongoing 76th Cannes Film Festival, leaving actress Sunny Leone overwhelmed and teary-eyed following the screening of the movie at the Midnight Screening section of the prestigious event on Thursday.

Kennedy leads Rahul Bhat and Sunny looked visibly emotional during the post-screening ovation, a video of which was shared by the official YouTube channel of Festival de Cannes on Thursday.

The six-minute-34-second video shows Rahul, Sunny and Anurag applauding along with the rest of the audience and hugging other cast and crew members who came to the film festival held in France. The director had a big smile on his face as he looked at the audience applauding him. Sunny was spotted saying “You did it” to Anurag and following it up with “Yeah I’m not crying”.

Anurag also walked up to filmmaker Sudhir Mishra and touched his feet before embracing him. Kennedy was reportedly inspired by a story that Mishra had told Anurag years ago.

The cast and crew of the film walked the red carpet of the film festival ahead of the Kennedy premiere. Sunny was seen in a flowy pink one-shoulder dress, while Anurag opted for a black nehru suit and Rahul donned a classic tuxedo.

Kennedy centres around Uday (Rahul Bhat), an insomniac ex-cop turned contract killer who goes by the name Kennedy and is believed to be dead by everyone who knew him. Sunny plays the role of a Canadian femme fatale in the film.

Two other Indian films — Agra by Kanu Behl and Nehemich by Yudhajit Basu — were also a part of the film festival’s line-up.
