Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal has emerged as the third-highest Week 1 earner in 2023 with an impressive haul of Rs 338.85 crore nett in India, a report by box office data tracker Sacnilk highlighted on Friday.
The Sandeep Reddy Vanga-directed actioner has cruised past the opening-week box office figures of Gadar 2 (Rs 284.63 crore nett) and now trails only behind Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan and Pathaan. Jawan claims the top spot with a staggering Rs 391.33 crore nett, while Pathaan secures the second position with Rs 364.15 crore nett.
Animal raked in Rs 25.50 crore nett on Day 7 and already surpassed the lifetime earnings of Ranbir’s last release, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, which had amassed Rs 149.05 crore nett at the domestic box office. It is now on course to dethrone Sanju (with a lifetime business of Rs 342.53 crore nett) as the highest-grossing film of Ranbir’s career.
Exploring the complexities of a man’s troubled relationship with his father, Animal film portrays Ranvijay (Ranbir) as an anti-hero, willing to take extreme measures to protect his emotionally distant father (Anil Kapoor). The actioner also features Rashmika Mandanna, Bobby Deol and Tripti Dimri in pivotal roles.
