Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Animal turned out to be the second-highest opener among Hindi films in 2023 with a thumping Rs 61 crore nett collection, leaving Vicky Kaushal’s Sam Bahadur far behind on their opening day on December 1.
The Meghna Gulzar-helmed biopic of India’s Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw opened with a meagre Rs 5 crore amidst the Animal storm at the box office, according to trade reports.
Animal, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, now sits just behind Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan in terms of box office collection (75 crore), marking a significant milestone in Ranbir’s career as it went on to become the Bollywood star’s biggest opening yet.
According to early estimates reported by Sacnilk, Animal has raked in Rs 50.50 crore nett in Hindi and an additional Rs 10 crore nett in Telugu. The Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada versions contributed another Rs 50 lakh nett.
Also featuring Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Shakti Kapoor, Prem Chopra and Tripti Dimri, Animal follows Rannvijay Singh (Ranbir) who is ready to go to any extent possible to protect his father.
