Ajay Devgn-starrer Shaitaan has emerged as a runaway success at the Indian box office, earning Rs 53 crore nett in India on its opening weekend, according to latest trade reports.
Directed by Vikas Bahl, the supernatural thriller, also starring R. Madhavan and Jyotika, kicked off its cinematic journey on March 8 with a solid start, raking in Rs 14.75 crore nett on Friday, according to entertainment-data-tracking platform Sacnilk. The momentum continued to build on Saturday, with collections reaching Rs 18.75 crore nett. Sunday witnessed a significant surge, with the horror-thriller earning around Rs 20 crore nett.
Shaitaan maintained a steady occupancy rate of 36.24 per cent for Hindi shows on Sunday, as per Sacnilk.
Presented by Jio Studios, Devgn Films, and Panorama Studios, Shaitaan is a Hindi adaptation of the 2023 Gujarati horror hit Vash, originally written and directed by Krishnadev Yagnik.
Meanwhile, Yami Gautam-starrer Article 370 has raked in Rs 65.7 crore nett at the domestic box at the end of its 17th day in theatres. On the other hand, Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies has collected Rs 8.75 crore nett in 10 days.
