It was a “no-brainer” for actor Aditya Roy Kapur to jump in when he was offered the upcoming Disney+ Hotstar Specials series The Night Manager, the 37-year-old said during the trailer launch of the show on Friday in Mumbai.
The Hindi adaptation of a popular British show of the same name, The Night Manager stars Aditya as a hotel manager-turned-spy on a mission to catch an arms dealer, played by Anil Kapoor.
“When the opportunity arose, the chance to work on this particular piece felt like a dream role for an actor. I saw the original and I loved it. I love what Sandeep Modi and the writers have done with it. It’s a dream role for an actor because he goes through so much and there was so much scope to put things into this role,” said Aditya.
“For me, it was a no-brainer to jump in. I love watching shows as a viewer. And I’ve always told myself as an actor that I’ll do things that I like watching. Otherwise, what’s the point?” he added.
Aditya also talked about his acting choices and the switch to OTT. He said, “You try and intellectualize everything and try to plan your career. But it never really goes according to plan. I try as much as I can to go with my gut. Sometimes it goes right and sometimes it goes wrong. In this case, it was just dictated by the amazing team that was put together and the work that was done on the script. That drew me towards the role in The Night Manager.”
The Night Manager also stars Sobhita Dhulipala, Saswata Chatterjee, Ravi Behl, and Tillotama Shome in pivotal roles. The series is directed by Sandeep Modi and Priyanka Ghosh and will be released on Disney+ Hotstar on February 17.
