Actors Abhishek Bachchan and Saiyami Kher called their upcoming movie Ghoomer as a ‘deeply personal’ project at the film’s trailer launch event in Mumbai on Friday.

“This film is very, very personal to me for reasons I don’t need to elaborate. Once you see the film you’ll understand. It’s a film about hope, inspiration, and the never-say-die attitude. I hope we can convey that to the audience,” said Abhishek, who plays a cricket coach struggling with alcoholism in R. Balki’s sports drama.

Saiyami Kher expressed a similar sentiment, saying she always wanted to portray a sportperson’s character on the screen. “From the time I became an actor, I was constantly saying that I wanted to play a cricketer or sportperson. That’s who I was first. Getting to live the dream that I wanted to live is like feeling everything that I could have asked for,” she mentioned.

The actress also spoke about her co-actors in the film. “I have worked with Abhishek Bachchan twice before, so he’s my favourite co-star. Angad Bedi has been my first friend in the industry and thus it feels very special. And, of course, there’s Shabana Azmi who I’ve known since childhood. So, it’s a very special film.”

Angad, who portrays Sayami’s sweetheart in Ghoomer, discussed the latter’s passion for cricket. “She actually went to watch Ranji Trophy matches in empty stadiums. When the great Sachin Tendulkar retired, she sat outside his house and cried. I think Saiyami has done full justice to this part,” said the actor, who played a cricketer in Prime Video series Inside Edge.

Produced by Hope Film Makers in association with Saraswati Entertainment, Ghoomer will arrive in cinemas on August 18.
