Tamannaah Bhatia’s sleuth stumbles upon shocking revelations as she investigates the bizarre case of mass suicides by 11 members of a family in the trailer of Disney+ Hotstar’s upcoming crime drama series Aakhri Sach, inspired by the Burari deaths that shook the nation in 2018.

The two-minute-15-second-long trailer begins with Tamannaah’s character having a haunting vision of several bodies hanging from the ceiling of a house. She wakes up sweaty and terrified. Digging deeper into the case leaves her even more bewildered but she continues to explore possible reasons that could have led to the mass deaths.

The house they’re found hanging in has a curious connection to the number 11. There are 11 doors and windows, 11 pipes along with 11 bodies. While superstition could be a reason behind the heinous act, Tamannaah’s investigating officer is reluctant to entirely dismiss a murder angle.

The trailer also shows glimpses of the family members before their demise and shows their spiritual side. Stree and Patal Lok actor Abhishek Banerjee plays an important family member. The trailer ends with him uttering, “Family matters should stay within the family.”

The Burari case involved ritual mass suicide of 11 family members of the Chundawat family from Burari, Delhi, in 2018.

Prior to getting a fictional take, the infamous case has also been explored in depth in Netflix’s 2021 three-part true crime docuseries House of Secrets: The Burari Deaths, created by Leena Yadav.

Produced by Nirvikar Films, the upcoming series is directed by Robbie Grewal, and written by Saurav Dey.

Aakhri Sach will premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on August 25.
