12th Fail

Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s recent release 12th Fail is based around the life of a determined IPS officer Manoj Sharma. Starring the talented Vikrant Massey as the leading man, this film discusses the myriad hardships endured by a small-town man in his desire to rise from the rags to a position of rank. His character embodied grit, ambition and perseverance motivating him to conquer every hurdle. Be it his humble appearance or the depth in his eyes, every element screamed out the discrimination meted out to him, adding a dash of realism. The film aims to infuse a sense of optimism and confidence among the young viewers who have a tendency to turn despondent following a failure. The solid blend of emotions powered by powerful dialogues made it an absolutely heartwarming film for me. (I liked/didn't like 12th Fail because... October 28)

First of all, a big shout out to all the incredible performers. 12th Fail is non-preachy, non-dramatic and without any forced gimmicks. Its softness and stillness moved my heart. The movie celebrates self respect and will power. What really is appreciative that Vidhu Vinod Chopra has not glorified poverty in the film to attract sympathy. The songs are subtle and elevate the mood of the poignant film.

Vikrant Massey is phenomenal. His delicate yet explosive act totally melted my heart. The last scene where he hears his selection news is heart wrenching and the powerful emotion is still resonating with me. The movie proves that failure cannot be an indelible tag in anyone's life, rather what matters is the never-surrender spirit to restart your life.

Vidhu Vinod Chopra's latest directorial 12th Fail is a wonderful movie. It is immensely inspirational and fully relatable, being based on the extraordinary real-life story of IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma. Vikrant Massey is brilliant in the lead role. Ace film-maker Vidhu Vinod Chopra has narrated the story of Manoj's grit and determination in a very engaging way.
