A.R. Rahman composed the Vida Karo song for Amar Singh Chamkila in a candlelit room with lyricist Irshad Kamil and director Imtiaz Ali in just two hours, the latter has revealed in a recent video shared by Netflix India on YouTube.

“All of us were in a certain mood. And then Rahman said, ‘Let's put the lights off. Let's light the candles’. It took two hours. We were recording the whole thing and Irshad was writing, within those two hours he finished writing and nothing changed,” Imtiaz said in the video, also featuring singer Mohit Chauhan along with Rahman and Kamil.

Imtiaz shared that he never feels pressured by time when collaborating with Irshad and Rahman. “When we work together, we never have the pressure that we have to do something in an hour.”

A month after its release on Netflix, Imtiaz's Amar Singh Chamkila starring Dilijit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra continues to garner attention and praise as one of the platform's recent standout successes.

Rahman praised Irshad, saying, “He can write a song in a year and he can write a song in 10 minutes,” to which Imtiaz replied, “What he writes in 10 minutes is better.”

“He has worked 40 years for those 10 minutes. We know that all the charge is within him. We love him,” Rahman further said.

Moving on to the song Tu Kya Jane, Rahman recounted how he locked Irshad in a room, refusing to let him out until he provided a line for the song. “I locked the door. I told him I need a line. Imtiaz liked the previous song but I said, ‘We are going to pitch a new song to him. It better be good so give me a line to compose.’ It was a friendly lock. I was sitting in front of him and intimidating him. Within seven minutes, he gave me the line. I said, ‘You can go now’,” the Oscar-winning composer recalled.

Imtiaz, Rahman and Irshad have worked together in three films in the past — Rockstar (2011), Highway (2014) and Tamasha (2015).
