The melodious voice of Supriti Ghosh is synonymous with the familiar and well-loved lyrics of Bajlo tomar alor benu, an ode to Goddess Durga as she begins her journey for her earthly home. Supriti Ghosh was born on August 28, 1922. When she was very young, she had the chance to meet and listen to songs by legendary singers like Hemanta Mukherjee, Pankaj Kumar Mallick, Hiren Bose and Raichand Boral, who would often visit her uncle Nripenda Nath Majumdar, a famous musician, and a producer at All India Radio. It was owing to their inspiration that she too stepped into the portals of its hallowed recording studio. A trained Rabindrasangeet singer, Supriti Ghosh also did playback singing for many films. However, she became a household name for lending her voice to the iconic song in Mahishasur Mardini , which was then performed live in AIR studios. In fact, both her song as well as the stotra have attained cult status in Bengal. In the course of her illustrious career, she crooned more than 300 songs.

On her centenary, to remember and pay homage to the singer of yesteryears, a programme of music was organised on August 14 at Gallery Gold. Veteran actress Shakuntala Barua was present, along with Tagore songs exponent Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta, who also performed songs as her tribute to Supriti Ghosh.
