Distorted Chromosomes began as a school band in Patha Bhavan in 2015. The members continued beyond school. Eight years and several changes later, the current line-up comprises Boidurjyo Chowdhury, Hiten Mukherjee, Sayor Dabba Ghosh, Surja Dutta, Indrayudh Kar and their production manager, Abhipreta Debnath. They all love music and find inspiration in the Bangla band scene.

They were present at the Chester Bennington Tribute Concert at Eco Park in 2017 and have performed across several college fests in Bengal. Their recent original song, Hypocrite, was released on December 30, from Zee Music Company and it was nominated for an award. They also have a Hindi original song titled Diary, which released in 2020. Their upcoming song, Niyom bhangte raji, from T-series, has a tentative release date — after Durga Puja.

“When we started, we didn’t know we’ll continue this beyond school. At that point, it was all about performing and making good music and winning hearts. After school, we realised we wanted to continue and we performed our first gig as a band at the Chester Bennington Tribute Concert in 2017 and have pursued a concrete path since then. We’ve been inspired by Bangla bands and watching live performances had been an integral part of my life. The stage is like heaven for us,” said Boidurjyo Chowdhury (lead vocalist, guitarist and songwriter of Distorted Chromosomes; he is also the guitarist for the band Cactus and an aspiring school teacher).
