Along with all the overdue assignments and heaps of projects I’ve cleared out some space in my schedule to let the reader in me breathe as well. This summer, I intend to read The Circe by Madeline Miller, Looking for Alaska by John Green and Peril at End House by Agatha Christie. Nothing seems more tempting than flipping the pages of a book with a million presumptions running wild in my mind in these long days of summer and I can’t wait to finish my reading list for the month.

Recently, I stumbled upon Chetan Bhagat’s 400 Days while I was scrolling through Google to check out books by Indian writers. The way it has been written made me fall in love with the book as well as the author. So, this summer I thought I’d read some of the best mystery novels like Bhagat’s The Girl in Room 105, Sherlock Holmes mysteries by Arthur Conan Doyle, and so on.

For this summer, I have books of varied genres. They include A Price to Love by Smita Das Jain, Quantum Healing System by Lakshmi Ajoy, The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon, Storm Beneath the Calm by Bandana Brahmin, Beartown by Fredrick Backman, Of Whispers and Bridges by Leena A.C, Tilottama at a Glance by Sreeparna Sen, Incandescent Ardour by Rajani Nair and Islands in the Stream by Sonal Singh. I won these books at a writing platform called Penmancy. I have read a few of them already, and waiting to read the rest.

To laugh and be merry is what we all crave for. Happiness is re-reading favourite books and reminiscing about childhood days. Special mention must be made of Rosikraj Gopal Bhar, Molla Nasiruddin-er Sera 100 Galpo, Sukumar Ray’s Abol Tabol and Pagla Dashu, Narayan Gangopadhyay’s Tenida Samagra, Rajsekhar Basu’s Parasuram Galpo Samagra and Shibram Chakraborty’s Hashir Tekka. Thus, this summer reading list will be all about “Give me some sunshine..give me some rain, give me another chance, wanna grow up once again!”

Summer break is here finally and so is my time to have my nose in books that I bought on my way home on the last working day before vacation. Here’s a list of my lazy afternoon reading list. Book Lovers by Emily Henry, a rom-com that promises to be a breezy read, one apt for a summer vacation; The Epic City by Kushanava Choudhury, a vivid read that takes one through the streets of Calcutta while in the comfort of the room; and Swami and Friends by R.K. Narayan, a nostalgic read that’s bound to transport one to the carefree times of his childhood, which is heartwarming.

The books on my reading list this summer are Dark Star Safari by Paul Theroux. It is a road trip across the dark continent of Africa, starting at the horn, i.e., Egypt. Next, I am rereading one of my favourite books, The City of Djinns by William Dalrymple, a delightful take on Delhi, that bewitching city with layers of history pulsating with untold stories.

Pampa Paul

The books on my reading list this summer are Spare by Prince Harry and The Gujarat Files by Rana Ayyub. Recently, I finished reading Ravish Kumar’s The Free Voice. Hence, my love for non-fiction, personal memoirs have increased.

Srestha Sarkar

Not ‘books’ but a book is presently on my reading list and that is author Samaresh Majumdar’s Saatkahon. This book is no less than a cult classic and quite extensive but the reading experience is something I hope to cherish forever. Have wanted to read it for a long time and, finally, I am into it and loving every bit.

Good books can enlighten us and lead us in the right direction. Some books that I would like to read soon include Ruskin Bond’s The Great Train Journey and Roads to Mussoorie, and my beloved Debanjana Ghatak’s Coffee, Music and You.

Debojit Swarnaker

I have a great love for books, especially storybooks. This summer I want to read Wuthering Heights by Emily Jane Bronte and Silence! The Court is in Session by Vijay Tendulkar. I have to prepare for my half-yearly exams too. That’s why I don’t have much time to read other books. But if I manage to get more time, I’ll try to read other types of books rather than being stuck under the school notes. Reading different books helps me clear my mind and frees me from anxiety caused by exam pressure.
