In its fresh judgement, the US Supreme Court on Thursday banned the use of race and ethnicity in university admissions, dealing a major blow to a decades-old practice that boosted educational opportunities for African-Americans and other minorities.
In the majority opinion, Chief Justice John Roberts wrote, "The student must be treated based on his or her experiences as an individual — not on the basis of race."
However, President Joe Biden has responded to the SC's decision with 'disagreement'. Biden on Thursday said he "strongly" disagreed with the US Supreme Court ruling banning the use of race and ethnicity in university admission decisions. The ruling "walked away from decades of precedent", he added.
