Amidst protests on campuses in the US and Europe demanding divestment from Israel, students of Ashoka University in Haryana’s Sonepat have asked their institution to cut ties with Tel Aviv University.
On Sunday, the Ashoka University Student Government cited Tel Aviv University’s “ties with the Israeli military and its support for the occupation of Palestinian territories”, propaganda, and links with weapons companies and Israeli intelligence agencies.
The student body tweeted a statement demanding that their varsity: “Immediately suspend all existing academic and research collaborations with Tel Aviv University.
Refrain from entering into any new agreements or partnerships with Tel Aviv University until credible measures are taken to address
the concerns raised by reputable human rights organisations.
Engage in dialogue and consultation with relevant stakeholders, including Palestinian rights advocates, to ensure that our university’s actions align with international standards of human rights and justice.”
The Ashoka administration is yet to respond to queries on this matter from The Telegraph.
