Aamir Khan participated in a ‘best sheermal’ competition at chef Vikas Khanna’s restaurant in New York, where he’s camping with ex-wife and Laapataa Ladies / Lost Ladies director Kiran Rao for the film’s Oscar campaign.
In a video shared by chef Khanna on Instagram, Aamir is seen rolling the dough with a rolling pin alongside Mysha Rizvi. With some help from Khanna, Aamir tries to make a perfect sheermal — a saffron-flavoured, mildly sweet flatbread popular in Mughlai cuisine — though Mysha is declared the winner at the end.
“Today we had the most amazing competition of making ‘BEST SHEERMAL’ between Aamir Khan & Mysha Rizvi. They both did an incredible job and finally Mysha won,” Vikas wrote alongside the video on Instagram.
“The past few days have been a dream to watch & work closely with @raodyness @aamirkhanproductions @officialjiostudios & team. Their humility, passion & simplicity won our hearts & wishing the team of @lostladiesfilm the very best for the @theacademy journey,” the Michelin-starred chef added.
Earlier in the day, Khanna had shared pictures from the special Oscar campaign event that took place at his Michelin-star restaurant, which Aamir and Kiran attended with other team members. In his note, Vikas called Kiran a “true artist” and Aamir the “kindest”.
“Jab dil se Dua atti hai, ‘Jeet lo duniya’. This is exactly what I felt yesterday when we were hosting Oscar Campaigning event of Lost Ladies (Laapataa Ladies) at Bungalow,” Khanna wrote.
Laapataa Ladies, which is India’s official Oscar contender, was recently rebranded as Lost Ladies ahead of its international campaign for the coveted award. The film, which hit theatres on March 1, is based on an original story by Biplab Goswami.
Set in the fictional heartland of Nirmal Pradesh, the film recounts the experiences and adventures of two new brides, encumbered by their long veils. After they get swapped during an overnight train journey, one of them is taken home by the groom while the other is left stranded at a railway station.
Pratibha Ranta (Jaya) and Nitanshi Goel (Phool) play the lost brides, while Sparsh Shrivastav essays the role of the hapless groom (Deepak). The film also features Ravi Kishan as a sardonic police officer.
With Laapataa Ladies, Kiran returned to the director’s chair after a gap of 13 years following her 2010 drama film Dhobi Ghat. The film is produced by Aamir Khan, with Jyoti Deshpande of Jio Studios serving as the co-producer.
