The Indian warship, INS Teg, has rescued nine sailors, including eight Indians and one Sri Lankan, who were on board the Comoros-flagged oil tanker — MT Falcon Prestige — that had capsized on July 14 off the Oman coast, sources said.
The vessel had a total of 13 Indians onboard. Indian Navy assets and Omani agencies are still carrying out search and rescue missions in the area, a navy official said.
The Indian Navy has also deployed its maritime surveillance aircraft P-8I along with the Omani vessels and personnel to carry out search and rescue missions.
The vessel had a crew of 16, of whom 13 were Indians.
The search and rescue operation to find the remaining crew members are continuing, sources said.
The tanker sank 40 nautical kilometres southeast of Ras Madrakah in the Wilayat of Duqm, Oman’s Maritime Security Centre said in a post on X on Monday.
The vessel was headed for the Yemeni port city of Aden, according to the shipping website marinetraffic.com, which said it departed from the port of Hamriya, Dubai.
Duqm Port is a major hub of Oman’s major oil and gas mining projects.
