A former Pakistani diplomat’s daughter was murdered in Islamabad, according to a media report on Wednesday, just days after a diplomatic row broke out between Pakistan and Afghanistan over the alleged abduction of the daughter of Afghanistan’s ambassador to Islamabad.
Noor Mukadam, 27, daughter of Shaukat Mukadam, was found dead in the capital’s upscale Sector F-7/4 area on Tuesday, Dawn newspaper reported. Mukadam has in the past served as Pakistan’s ambassador to South Korea and Kazakhstan.
Noor was killed after being shot at, the daily quoted the police as saying. A friend of Noor has been arrested in connection with the murder, the police said.
“A man named Zahir Jaffer, who was allegedly involved in the murder, was arrested on the spot and taken to the police station,” Samaa TV quoted the Islamabad police as saying.
The killing comes as a storm brews over the safety of diplomatic missions and its personnel in Pakistan.
On July 16, Silsila Alikhil, the 26-year-old daughter of Afghanistan’s ambassador to Pakistan, Najibullah Alikhil, was briefly abducted from Islamabad and tortured, the Afghanistan foreign office said in a statement last week.
The incident triggered a major diplomatic row between the two nations who are coping with the resurgence of the Taliban as the US and Nato reach the final phase of their troop pull out operation.
Pakistan has denied the Afghan allegations, saying the Islamabad police have found no evidence of the abduction.
TikTok blocked
Pakistan on Wednesday blocked access to TikTok for its failure to remove “inappropriate content”, taking down the popular Chinese short video-sharing app for the fourth time in recent months.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the telecom regulator, in a tweet said that in light of relevant provisions of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016, PTA has blocked access to the TikTok app and website in the country.
“The action has been taken due to the continuous presence of inappropriate content on the platform and its failure to take such content down,” it said.
The move comes after the Sindh High Court on July 2 withdrew its earlier decision to ban Tiktok.
The court on June 28 had asked the PTA to suspend the TikTok app on the complaint by a citizen regarding “immorality and obscenity” on the mobile app.
Before that, the Peshawar High Court (PHC) in March suspended the app following a petition filed by several citizens.
However, the PHC after a few weeks lifted the ban by asking the PTA to take measures so that no “immoral content” was uploaded.
