A Bangladeshi couple were sentenced to death by a tribunal on Wednesday for selling a 17-year-old girl to a brothel in India, media reports said.
The Khulna Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal pronounced capital punishment for the couple — identified as Shahin Sheikh and Asma Begum — for selling the teenager to the brothel in India, Bangladeshi news agency UNB reported.

According to the prosecution, the convicts took the girl to India with a promise to arrange a job and sold her to a brothel on October 19, 2009, the Dhaka Tribune newspaper reported. The reports did not mention the location of the brothel.
After the girl’s family failed to trace her, they lodged a general diary against the couple.
