A gunman killed at least 30 people in northern Thailand on Thursday.

Police in the north of the country have launched a manhunt after the shooting at a child care center.

What we know so far

Both children and adults were among the victims, police said in a statement.

The gunman was an ex-police officer, the statement added.

Shootings of this nature not common

Mass shootings are rare in Thailand.

In 2020, however, a soldier angry over a property deal that went wrong went on a rampage, killing at least 29 people and wounding 57 others. The incident took place across four locations.
