Antony Blinken anticipates ceasefire talks in Gaza after meeting with Qatar's PM

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said after talks in Qatar on Thursday that he anticipates negotiators will get together in the coming days for discussions on a ceasefire deal to end Israel's war in Gaza.

Speaking alongside Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Blinken said the two discussed options to capitalise on the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar and move the abortive negotiations forward.

The United States, Qatar, and Egypt continue their efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza and release Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners, Qatar's prime minister said on Thursday.

"This painful period in the region should come to an end," said Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, who is also the foreign minister, after meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Doha.
