Ten Nepali students have been killed and four injured in Israel after the Palestinian militant group Hamas launched a wave of rocket attacks in the country’s southern region, Nepal’s foreign ministry said on Monday.

In a press statement, the foreign ministry here said 10 Nepali nationals lost their lives in the recent attack by Hamas in Israel. Out of the 17 Nepali nationals working on a farm at Kibbutz Alumim, an area near the Gaza Strip, two escaped, four were injured and one is still missing, it said.

“We have received the information of the sad demise of ten Nepali nationals from the site, where the Hamas had launched an attack,” Nepal’s embassy in Jerusalem said.

"We are trying to identify those killed in the incident. Efforts are being made to search for one missing student. The bodies will be brought back to Nepal soon after the identification is completed,” the embassy said.

Nine Americans dead

Washington: The US on Monday said nine Americans were killed in Israel and other US citizens were missing, following Saturday’s unprecedented Hamas attack that killed 700 Israelis.

“At this time, we can confirm the deaths of nine US citizens,” state department spokesperson Matthew Miller said in a statement.

“We can confirm that there are unaccounted-for US citizens, and we are working with our Israeli partners to determine their whereabouts,” he added.

10 Britons feared dead

London: More than 10 Britons are feared dead or missing in Israel, the BBC reported on Monday, citing an official source.

A London-born man who was serving in the Israeli army died on Saturday on the Gaza border, his family said, and another British man was missing.

Thai hostages

Bangkok: Thailand is working with Jordan, Egypt and Malaysia to secure the release of its citizens taken hostage during unrest in Israel, a deputy foreign minister said on Monday. A dozen Thai nationals were killed, nine wounded and 11 more kidnapped.

Holed up inside a bunker in southern Israel with over 30 other Thai migrant workers, Udomporn Jampahom said he is desperate to return home.
