On this day Amrita Bazar Patrika, a newspaper published from Calcutta, carried an advertisement of Susil Malati, or “Indian Pometom”.

It read: “By its regular use the face becomes free from all sorts of eruptions. pimples and other black spots and makes the face smooth and glossy. It is a quite new article. If it be used twice daily, within a very short time black spots on face disappear for ever. It beautifies the face and hair.
