The woman shot at by her friend before he shot himself dead at a Lake Gardens guest house on Wednesday is conscious and stable, hospital officials said on Thursday.
A three-member team of the state women’s commission visited the hospital and spoke to Nikku Kumari Yadav, 21. Sources said she told the commission she had gone to the washroom and the moment she stepped out, Rakesh Kumar Shah, 27, brandished a gun and opened fire.
The police said the 9mm gun found from the spot and reportedly used for the shooting was an improvised one, made in Bihar’s Munger.
An officer said their primary investigation was to find out the source of the gun and how Shah, who worked as a volunteer in the civil defence department, got hold of it. “We will examine his friends and family and try to find out,” he said.
The five-and-a-half page note found on Shah mentioned he had got the gun from “Ganga dhar”.
“In Bengali, Ganga dhar means the embankment of river Ganga. We are also verifying if he got the gun from someone named Gangadhar,” the officer said.
Shah carrying the gun to his meeting with Dubey indicated that he had planned the shooting, the police said.
A hospital official said the bullet had entered Dubey’s body from the front and grazed her left kidney. It is still lodged in her body.
“She is conscious and speaking. She has been kept under observation and will be operated on in a day or two,” said the official.
