The 32-year-old woman who got a man arrested at Central Metro station on Monday for allegedly harassing her was felicitated by city police on Thursday.
The woman had come to the office of the deputy commissioner of police, central division, where deputy commissioner Sudheer Kumar Neelakantam and other officers of the central division felicitated her.
“We felicitated her because she didn’t let the man go but protested against the harassment. If women report cases of harassment, then such people will be afraid to commit the crime,” said a police officer.
The woman had said that the accused, Manoj Dutta, pushed her and took her pictures on his cellphone. She was helped by other passengers in dragging the man off the train.
The woman had boarded a Kavi Subhash-bound train at Dum Dum around 5.25pm, while the accused had got into the compartment at Belgachhia station.
The woman wrote in her complaint that the man sat beside her despite the seat being reserved for women.
“He had to get up as more women boarded the compartment. While getting up, he pushed her inappropriately and stood right in front of her. Then she spotted him taking her pictures on his cellphone,” an officer said.
At this point, the woman shouted in protest.
Her screams alerted other passengers, some of whom snatched the man’s cellphone. After the man was dragged off the train at Central station, the woman handed him over to the Metro Railway police.
