However, residents of Bamandanga-Tondu tea estate where Munda lived said he had entered the forest in search of cattle which hadn't returned after grazing.

On Monday, Munda's wife Anita filed a complaint against the Diana forest range at the Nagrakata police station. She was accompanied by Trinamool Congress leaders who demonstrated at the police station in protest against the forest firing.

Asesh Pal, the Diana forest range officer, was brief in his reaction. “We have come to know that a complaint was filed. The truth will be revealed if police investigate the case,” he said.
