A 40-year-old domestic help was bludgeoned to death allegedly by her husband in Siliguri on Wednesday morning.
Sources said that Anita Das, a resident of Purba Majhabari, who worked as a domestic help, was attacked by her husband Ajit while she was on her way to work at Purba Chayanpara area. In the course of an argument with her over some trifling issue, he suddenly attacked Anita with a brick and hit her repeatedly with it.
As some local residents intervened, Ajit fled the spot. Anita was rushed to Siliguri district hospital where she was pronounced dead.
A police team from Ashighar outpost under Bhaktinagar police station reached the spot and initiated a probe. Ajit was later arrested.
BSF arrests
Troops of the Border Security Force (BSF) posted along the India-Bangladesh border in north Bengal caught two Indians in the past 24 hours from different locations in South and North Dinajpur while they were allegedly trying to smuggle cough syrup bottles to Bangladesh.
Both Sultan Alam and Bahadur, who were nabbed with 350 and 27 cough syrup bottles on Wednesday and Tuesday, respectively, were handed over to the police.
