Subrata is carried from his home at Vivekananda Colony in Cooch Behar’s Dauaguri to the school and back by Sagar aka Ashiq Hossain in his arms.

Subrata, suspected to be suffering from cerebral palsy, and Sagar are Class II students.

“As I read the report in The Telegraph, I thought of doing something for these two boys. I have decided to provide a wheelchair to Subrata so that he can go to school easily. Ashiq can always take him to the school but doesn’t have to carry him. Instead, he can push the wheelchair to the school and back,” said Ghosh.

He said at a time intolerance and hatred divided people on religious lines, the two boys’ friendship had moved him. “Ashiq’s friendship proves that education and age are not always important. I will also extend help for Ashiq’s studies,” Ghosh added.

Priya, Amal’s wife, said: “My husband keeps himself associated with social works. It is good that he has decided to help the physically-challenged boy. Such friendship and amity are rare these days,” she said.
