Cutting short his G20 summit presence in Darjeeling, Governor CV Ananda Bose rushed back to Calcutta and headed straight to violence-affected areas of Rishra in Hooghly.
Governor Bose reached the Subhasnagar area adjacent to rail gate no 4 close to the Rishra railway station and was seen taking detailed account of the violence and subsequent action taken from Amit Javalgi, CP Chandanangar. He also spoke to senior RPF officials present at the site for their observations on the violence.
Following Sunday’s clashes over a Ram Navami rally, the area witnessed fresh violence on Monday evening when miscreants broke down the rail gate, hurled crude bombs and brick batted trains leading to suspension of railway services, both local and long distance, for over four hours. The railway service disruption led to large-scale commuter inconvenience, especially for home-bound daily passengers in the Howrah-Bandel main line who remained stuck at Howrah station till over midnight.
Earlier, briefing the media after landing in Calcutta, Governor Bose said: “Strict action will be taken against wrongdoers, people have the right to live in peace. Forces trying to create disturbances will be eradicated once and for all.”
