The BJP on Monday included several old-timers, who had been dropped from the state committee, in the executive committee of the party.

The notable names that have been included on the list are former state BJP president Rahul Sinha, former state vice-presidents Biswapriya Roy Chowdhury, Pratap Banerjee and Rajkamal Pathak. Two most prominent faces from the dissident camp — Ritesh Tiwari and Sayantan Basu — did not find berths on the executive committee.

“Looks like the leadership is willing to mend its ways and bridge the differences within the party. Probably this is why they have included the old timers in the executive committee again,” a state office bearer said.

Another section went ahead and claimed that those inductions were a result of an intervention from the central leadership. “Delhi isn’t quite happy with how things are being handled in Bengal,” another source said. This person said the party’s national president J.P. Nadda and national general secretary (organisation) were supposed to visit Bengal this month to meet the state executive. “The state leadership clearly wants to resolve the internal problems before Naddaji and Santoshji arrive,” the source added.

The party’s chief spokesperson, Samik Bhattacharya, and former chief of the minority Morcha, Ali Hossain, have also been inducted into the committee. Several members of the entertainment industry, who have remained inactive since the party faced a debacle in the 2021 Assembly polls, have also found a place on the new executive committee.

Multiple party leaders from the districts, many of whom have remained district chiefs, have been rehabilitated in the state executive. Two members of the Hindu Samhati, Debtanu Bhattacharya and Debdatta Majhi have also been included.

The MPs have not been named in the list. However, according to party sources the MPs, by virtue of being public representatives, will be included in the state executive.
