Kalyani University authorities on Thursday formed a committee for a code of conduct for teachers, non-teaching staff and included one of Trinamul’s student wing leader against whom a probe had started just a day before for alleged intimidation and trespass into the boys’ hostel.
On Wednesday, university vice-chancellor Manas Kumar Sanyal was practically compelled to order a probe against Yasin Zaman, a research scholar with the folklore department, after 70 students staged a demonstration and submitted a petition before the VC and the security officer accusing Yasin of threatening students.
Yasin was the assistant general secretary of the university's last elected students’ union in 2016.
However, the accused Yasin’s inclusion to the panel has irked many students and teachers, who called it “ironical” and “ridiculous”.
Calls to the VC and Yasin went unanswered.
