The Trinamul Congress legislature party on Thursday said chief minister Mamata Banerjee never angled for an “alliance or assistance” from the Opposition on Wednesday when she sought unity against the BJP.
“What has been reported in some newspapers today, regarding the chief minister’s address yesterday, about her ahbaan (call) to the Congress and the Left, her address was misinterpreted and distorted,” minister of state for parliamentary affairs Tapas Ray said in the Assembly.
She asked “for everyone to come together to save the nation. But that has been misinterpreted”, Ray added.
But Left legislature party leader Sujan Chakraborty rose to protest, saying it was correctly reported. Several members from the Left as well as the Congress echoed Chakraborty.
Ray said the reactions later given to the media by Left and Congress leaders were on the basis of the alleged misinterpretation. “It was a breach of the Assembly’s privilege and a privilege motion ought to be moved,” he said.
Chakraborty and several other MLAs of the Left and the Congress then descended on the well of the House and walked out after a scuffle with security personnel.
