Union defence minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday inaugurated 75 infrastructure projects developed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) which functions under his ministry.
For these projects, the Centre has spent ₹2,236 crore. Singh, who inaugurated the projects from Sukna, the headquarters of the Triskhakti Corps of the Indian army, around 10km away, said they included 22 roads, 51 bridges and two other projects spread across 11 states or Union territories.
“These infrastructural projects will enhance the movement of defence troops along the Himalayan border. Also, the projects will contribute to the socio-economic development of these regions,” Singh said.
Among the projects are 19 in Jammu & Kashmir, 18 in Arunachal Pradesh, 11 in Ladakh, nine in Uttarakhand, six in Sikkim, five in Himachal Pradesh, two each in Bengal and Rajasthan and one each in Nagaland, Mizoram and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The Kupup-Sherathang Road in Sikkim was also reopened on Saturday.
