Tyre trader found dead at bus terminus

There were no major injury marks on the body, police have registered a case and are waiting for post-mortem report

A trader was found dead at a bus terminus in Jaigaon, Alipurduar district, on Monday.

Police sources said Shankar Das, 36, who used to deal in tyres, had been spotted dead by employees of some private buses. They informed the police who rushed to the spot and seized the body.

There were no major injury marks on the body. The police have registered a case and are waiting for the post-mortem report.

Fake note haul

Englishbazar police in Malda seized fake Indian currency notes (FICN) with a face value of Rs 99,000 from Gabgachi on NH12 on Sunday evening and arrested one person.

Sources informed that Sadikul Islam, a resident of Shahabazpur under Kaliachak police station’s jurisdiction, was nabbed from a hotel. He was carrying the FICN in denominations of Rs 500.

“We suspect that he was waiting for somebody to hand over the counterfeit notes. He had collected the notes from Sayed Ali, a resident of Golapganj,” said a source.

Located in Kaliachak, Golapganj is a village that is close to the India-Bangladesh border.

Accident deaths

Two youths died in a road accident in Malda while they were returning from the last rites of a friend on Sunday morning.

Swapan Mahato, 26, of Bamangola and Rahul Jha, 25, of Manikchak, were on their way to Malda on a two-wheeler from Raiganj after attending the funeral of their friend.
