Two separate incidents of murder involving family members have been reported from north Bengal.

In Malda, a woman was stabbed allegedly by her husband in Shimal area under Pukhuria police station of the district around 9pm on Tuesday.

Police sources said that Supriya Singh aka Dipa, 35, was married to Sujit Singh 11 years ago after a love affair. The couple has an 8-year-old daughter and a 2-year-old son.

Some time ago, Supriya started living separately in Englishbazar, leaving her husband and children at Pukhria.

"She worked in a beauty parlour and refused to return and stay with my son, Sujit. This led to bitterness between them. I heard my son stabbed her last night (Tuesday)," said Makhan Singh, the father of the accused.

According to police sources, on Tuesday Sujit called up Supriya and asked her to meet at Shimal. “As soon as Supriya reached the spot, it is learnt Sujit stabbed her several times,” said a police source.

Critically injured, Supriya was rushed to Malda Medical College and Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. The husband is absconding.

"An investigation has been initiated. We are waiting for the post-mortem report. Search is on for the accused," said a police official.

In Cooch Behar district, a man was allegedly stoned to death by his younger brother at Satgram village under Mathabhanga police station on Tuesday around 10pm.

According to police sources, victim Zakir Hossain, 40, and his four brothers sat together to resolve an old land dispute.

"Suddenly Dulal Mia, the youngest brother, turned violent and started hurling stones at Zakir, who suffered grievous injuries. Family members rushed him to Mathabhanga subdivisional hospital where doctors pronounced Zakir dead," said Rabbil Hossain, a member of the family.

Dulal, 37, fled from the spot.

"The body was sent for the post-mortem. Investigation is on. We are searching for the accused," said a police official.
