The special operations group of Siliguri Metropolitan Police arrested two persons on Friday for conning a youth by promising him a job in the Indian army for Rs 3 lakh.
Sources said that Sanjay Kumar and Manoj Kumar of Patna somehow came in touch with a youth of Uttar Pradesh and offered him the army job around a month ago. The youth paid them Rs 25,000 online as advance.
Allegedly, Sanjay and Manoj called the youth to Sukna, 10km from Siliguri, on Friday. The youth did so and paid the duo Rs 2.75 lakh. He received a fake appointment letter.
However, local sources at Sukna tipped off police. The duo were arrested and the youth’s money recovered.
Baishnabnagar police of Malda on Friday night arrested a youth with two improvised revolvers, a pistol and one round of live cartridge.
The arrested Dilip Mondal, a resident of Beguntola in Kaliachak, planned to hand over the items to someone for money, police sources said.
