Two Class X students of a school at a locality in Murshidabad district were arrested on Saturday morning for bringing a locally made single-shot firearm to the school.
The incident came to light during the morning prayer session when a student alerted a teacher that two schoolmates were showing a firearm to another boy in the same school.
Teachers promptly searched the bags of all students and frisked them in Classes IX and X.
Finally, they discovered the firearm tucked inside a Class X student’s trousers near his waistline.
Upon questioning, the student revealed that the firearm belonged to one of his friends, also a Class X student.
The students, both minors, were then taken to the school office, and police were informed.
The police took the students into custody and seized the unlicensed gun, which was not loaded.
The incident has sent shockwaves across the all-boys institution.
The headmaster, expressing his shock at the incident, said: “Based on a tip-off from a boy, we found the gun from one boy. Another boy admitted it was brought from his uncle’s house.”
Police sources revealed the "uncle" was a prominent panchayat leader.
School sources indicated both the boys had earned a reputation of being bullies.
