Two Birbhumbas¬ed businessmen, who had ear¬lier accused arrested Trina¬mul leader Anubrata Mondal of taking more than Rs 5 crore and an expensive car on the false promise of awarding the duo a government project, lodged a written complaint against him with the CBI on Tuesday.

Sources said the complaint was not directly connected with the cattle smuggling case in which Mondal arrested.

“We have lodged a written complaint with CBI in Calcutta today against Anubrata Mondal for taking money and car from us in assurance of awarding a government job. We demanded justice for us in this connection,” said Arup Ratan Bhattacharya, one of the businessmen.

During a raid by the central agency on August 9 at a rice mill jointly owned by Anubrata’s daughter Sukanya and his deceased wife Chhobi, five expensive cars, including one owned by Bhattacharya's partner Prabir Mondal, was found.

After the expensive car that was registered by Prabir was spotted during the raid, the duo accused Anubrata and his bodyguard Saigal Hossain for taking the huge sum of money. Saigal and Anubrata both have been arrested by CBI in connection with an alleged cattle smuggling case.

“But the complaint is relevant to establish how Anubrata is so influential and powerful that he can extort money from a businessman for awarding a government job,” said an official.

Sources said, the work of dredging Mayurakshi river was not processed due to a few administrative glitches.

“We want a thorough probe into the process of tender for the work by Birbhum zilla parishad also,” said one of the businessmen.
