Police arrested two suspected drug peddlers from Kashmir Colony area of Siliguri on Wednesday and seized brown sugar worth Rs 1 crore from their possession.
Sources said around 537 grams of brown sugar, a derivative of heroin, was seized by a team of New Jalpaiguri police station. Those arrested have been identified as Sanjeev Mishra, a resident of Naxalbari of Siliguri sub-division, and Mohammad Saiful Hussain, a Malda resident. The cost of the seized narcotic is around Rs 1 crore, sources said.
On Tuesday, Pradhannagar police seized liquor bottles from a house in Debidanga and arrested Ajay Gurung.
Similar raids were conducted in Champasari and Milan More here on Wednesday and two persons had been arrested after around 100 bottles of liquor were seized from their possession.
In another incident, troops of 21 battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) posted at Khairbari border outpost on the India-Bangladesh border in Jalpaiguri district, apprehended a Bangladeshi minor on Wednesday.
The 17-year-old boy hails from Panchagarh district of the neighbouring country and had inadvertently crossed the border. The BSF contacted the Border Guard Bangladesh and the boy was handed over to them through a flag meeting.
The BSF also conducted drives against smuggling on Wednesday night and seized various contraband items including cattle and cough syrup from different locations. The cost of the seized items is around Rs 1.72 lakh, BSF sources said.
