Twin crude bombs defused, dagger seized from unattended bag in Malda

Two crude bombs and a dagger were recovered from a bag in Malda on Wednesday morning.

Sources said a minor boy noticed the bag that was left on the roadside in Bhingal area under Harishchandrapur police station of the district and opened it.

As he saw the bombs, he informed others who in turn, called the police.

A police team reached the village and cordoned off the bag. Later, a team from CID’s bomb squad went there and defused the bombs. The dagger has been seized.

Accident

A school student died and another got injured in a road accident on NH-12 near Ghakshol toll-plaza under Gazole police station of Malda district on Wednesday morning.

Ashim Rajbanshi, 19, was riding a two-wheeler along the highway with his friend Dipendu Sarkar, 20, as the pillion. They were on their way to Malda.

Around 12 noon, Rajbanshi lost control and the two-wheeler rammed into a tractor that was parked on the highway.

He died on the spot while Sarkar sustained grievous injuries. He is under treatment at Malda Medical College & Hospital.

Local people raised a blockade on NH12 and alleged that the tractor was parked in an illegal manner. They prevented the police from recovering the body. Reinforcements arrived and persuaded the demonstrators to lift the blockade.
