Tuskers trample one to death in Bankura village, another injured

The foresters suspect that the herd must have lost their way and reached the human habitation

A herd of tuskers trampled to death a person and injured two at a village in Bankura’s Jhagrapur area early on Thursday.

Sources said a herd of seven adult tuskers and four calves wandered into the Chhapna village and attacked the trio who where of their homes for daily chores.

According to sources, the deceased has been identified as retired farmer Bhabatosh Sit, 75, who was killed on the spot. The injured are admitted to the Bankura Medical College.

Forest officials responded to the incident shortly after.

The foresters suspect that the herd must have lost their way and reached the human habitation.

“The tuskers have been temporarily herded to a site at Kamalpur in Bankura,” said an official.
