Trinamul Congress national general-secretary Abhishek Banerjee is all set to resume his mass outreach drive in Bankura on Monday with more fanfare after appearing before the CBI on Saturday for interrogation.

“Local party leaders are ready to resume the outreach drive on Monday with at least thrice the exuberance of the previous events. The stretch of his road shows has been doubled. The leaders have been asked to ensure a gathering at least twice larger in scale than previous plans. Besides, there would be a grand welcome ceremony for Abhishek,” said a senior Trinamul leader.

Abhishek, chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew, had to leave Bankura for Calcutta on Friday afternoon in the middle of the Trinamuley Nabo Jowar (New High Tide in Trinamul) drive following a summons from the CBI. He was asked by the CBI to appear before investigators on Saturday in connection with the school recruitment "scam".

Abhishek is scheduled to reach Bankura’s Indas on Monday afternoon by helicopter. There, he would first meet bereaved family members of a Trinamul worker, who died from a lightning strike near a public meeting venue last month, and 40 others who were injured in the incident. Then, he would take part in a road show at Kotulpur.

“Earlier, the length of the road shows was two to three kilometres. The road show on Monday would continue for at least six kilometres,” said a Trinamul leader in Calcutta.

Kejriwal to meet Didi

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal is likely to meet his Bengal counterpart Mamata at Nabanna at 3pm on Tuesday.

Kejriwal is reaching out to key leaders in the national Opposition over his government's tussle with the Centre over IAS officers' postings.
