Sources said Majibur Rehman, 60, a resident of Sujali and an elderly TMC supporter, a village under Islampur police station of the district, with his neighbour Farazul, who is the husband of Husnara Khatun, a TMC member of the local panchayat, over the ownership of a parcel of land.

Today, Farazul, along with his associates went to take possession of the plot, they clashed with Majibur and his family members. Majibur was beaten up and sustained serious injuries. As he was rushed to a local hospital, doctors pronounced him dead.

Jahidul Islam, a local TMC leader, admitted that both sides were supporters of
his party.

“But it has nothing to do with politics. They clashed on the issue of land. We don’t support such violence and want the law to take its course,”
said Islam.

A police team brought the situation under control.

“Two groups clashed over the ownership of a land. Four persons were injured. We have brought the situation under control and seven persons have been arrested so far,” Joby Thomas, the superintendent of police of Islampur police district, said.
