Two persons died and 13 others got injured in a road accident at Malda’s Gazole police station area on Thursday morning.
Police sources said a trekker with 14 passengers was heading towards Gazole from Pakua. At Dangapara, the driver lost control and the vehicle rammed into a tree.
Local residents rescued them took them to the rural hospital and from there, some were shifted to the MMCH. On the way, Sushil Mahato, 58, one of the passengers, succumbed to his injuries. Bishakha Barman, 50, died at MMCH.
The driver is also injured. Police have seized the vehicle.
Indians held
Three Indians from Bihar’s Begusarai were intercepted by the BSF at the India-Bangladesh border in South Dinajpur on Wednesday when they were allegedly trying infiltrate into India from Bangladesh without papers. Sources said troops of 137 battalion of the BSF stopped Md Ziyaul Haque, his wife and son, and handed them over to Hilli police.
On Thursday, the BSF carried out raids in different locations of the border and seized contraband items including cattle and cough syrup bottles worth Rs 5.23 lakh.
