A bike riders’ group in Cooch Behar has planned a treasure hunt in the town to promote conservation of the heritage buildings and to popularise them among the youth.
On February 5, the Heritage Riders’ Society will host the event in association with the civic body where participants on bikes will visit heritage locations ranging from the Cooch Behar palace to the famous temple at Baneswar on the outskirts.
“The state government declared Cooch Behar as a heritage town and steps are being taken to conserve its heritage buildings. The treasure hunt will attract youngsters, many of whom are unaware of these buildings or their historical significance,” said Pawan Oswal, a representative of the bikers’ group.
Two-member biker teams will cover 40km in and around the town. “They will reach heritage buildings and solve riddles to find items or treasures there. They should know about heritage buildings to solve the clues during the treasure hunt,” Oswal said. “The event is a mix of fun and knowledge.”
Cooch Behar municipality chairman Rabindranath Ghosh said they expected 200 two-wheelers at the event.
